Two Projects in Associated Laboratory Obtains Support from "Cai Yuanpei Program" in 2014

It is learnt from China Scholarship Council that the two projects "Study of Heat Flux on the Plasma Facing Components in WEST and EAST Tokamaks" and "Physics and technology of Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating antennas (ICRH) for WEST and EAST Tokamaks" have successfully obtained the support from "Cai Yuanpei Program". The responsible principals are respectively Dr. Xianzu Gong and Dr. Chengming Qin in ASIPP, Dr. Annika and Walid Helou in CEA.

China-France "Cai Yuanpei Program" is Co-implemented by Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China, China Scholarship Council, Ministry of French Higher Education and Science, Directorate of European and International Relations and Cooperation, Directorate of French Diplomacy and European Globalization, Development and Cooperation and Campus.

"Cai Yuanpei Program" is based on Sino-France research program, aims to subsidize Sino-France researchers and Ph.D. students to co-conduct some cooperative research with great value. Every year as many as 25 cooperative research projects can be subsidized, among which our Associated Laboratory obtained two. Those researchers obtained the subsidization are respectively: Xianzu Gong, Xuebing Peng, Bin Zhang, Chengming Qin, Xinjun Zhang, Gen Chen and Yongsheng Wang.

Since the establishment of the Associated Laboratory, our bilateral parties have sent researchers for many times to have specific discussion about our three significant cooperative projects, namely, Articulated Inspection Arm (AIA), ICRF Antenna and Long Pulse H-mode Operation. AIA co-research team have accomplished the design, manufacture and test of EAST AIA remote handling. ICRH team have also finished the design of new WEST ICRH Antenna, which can support the as much as 1MW/1000s (3MW/1000s) operation of long pulse plasma physics experiment. Besides, the bilateral parties are conducting high-parameter long-pulse plasma physics experiment on EAST device. In general, our cooperative fields have widely expanded to the extend that both researchers are actively engaging in cooperative projects to exert their unique advantages.

The obtaining of "Cai Yuanpei Program" is a sufficient demonstration of our excellent efforts, which is deemed to provide powerful support for following cooperative researches and push forward various projects in our AL.
